What are polygenic risk scores?

May 8, 2019

Polygenic risk scores are calculations that can assess our genetic risk for a certain complex condition or disease. Polygenic risk scores give doctors the ability to understand the genetic risk for an individual to develop complex diseases and can also help to identify a disease-phenotype. Advancements in genetic disease research have led to better understanding that complex diseases have many genetic components—otherwise known as polygenicity. In this video, our Illumina team explains how genotyping studies are conducted to develop and validate polygenic risk scores, and how these scores can shape the future understanding of disease risk and mitigation. #illumina #polygenetics #complexdiseaseresearch Learn more about polygenic risks cores at www.Illumina.com
